DigitalDrawing

Digital drawing of a red-headed Miqo'te from Final Fantasy 14 holding a gunblade resting on her shoulder.

I confess that I’m not entirely happy with it.

Couldn’t get the hair colour as I wanted it – light blue with red tips, the eyes and lips are not the best either, plus I ate a thumb when adjusting the gunblade and only noticed way too late.

I could fix it, it is a digital painting, it is not difficult. I just no longer had the energy.

This painting was sketched over an existing screenshot from the game (Final Fantasy XIV), but it was holding an umbrella instead of a gunblade and the light was from a different direction. And it was painted while going through WLOP’s curses, in particular the one about fine tunning colour and contrast (https://wlop.gumroad.com/l/xuqngv?layout=profile&recommended_by=library)

All-in-all, though I am unsatisfied about some aspects of it, I am very happy with the result.

From painting greyscale eggs and misshapen mugs to painting a quite complex character. A very natural progression indeed.

I will follow my own advice on it: Paint what you want to paint.

There is no point practicing with still life if your end goal is elsewhere. Sure, they will help with some basic concepts, specially light and shadow, but they are not complex enough.

The result so far is a mess. I’m not happy with quite a few aspects from it, simply because I still don’t have the skills to pull it off.

On the other hand, I am very happy with how things are going, as it is far better than I thought myself capable of.

“Trust the process!”

Well, I don’t.

I know it is not finished but

  • I don’t like the rocks
  • I don’t like the bushes
  • I don’t like the tree bark

I’m on the last module of this course (the first of a three part series. beginer, intermetiate, advanced), and I just decided to deviate completely from what will be done.

Well, sort off.

The module’s subject is a tree on a cliff. It is kind of what I’ll do, but I’ll take a massive liberty on how I’ll approach it. Far more than when I did the Dirty Skull.

So far, what’ve done in about one hour or so (once again I forgot to time when I started), is the sketch and the main colours.

Okay, the cracks was a half-assed work. That much I admit. The skull “border” seems a little wonky, but that is fine.
